WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THIS STUDY:

Participate remotely via secure Zoom video conferencing.

Participation involves questionnaires and one-on-one interviews at an initial screening appointment.

Participants who qualify and are interested will then complete an appointment that includes a brief, one-on-one orientation and information session on alcohol use. Here, they will learn how to use the new mobile apps that are the focus of the study.

After this appointment, a 4-week period will begin where participants will be able to try these mobile apps during their normal, real-life drinking situations.

At the end of this period, participants are invited to give their thoughts and opinions on the technology, which may be used to design future research studies.

A final 1-month follow up appointment will be scheduled where participants will be asked some final questions and will be able to tell us about their participation in the study as a whole.

COMPENSATION:

Up to $280.00 over the course of study participation. According to Northeastern University's guidelines for compensating human subjects for research activities and United States tax laws, we cannot guarantee compensation for foreign nationals. Therefore, we are not recruiting non-citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Thank you for your interest in "Development and Initial Testing of a Multi-Component Breath Alcohol-Focused Intervention for Young Adults, Stage 3" also known as the BAMTECH Study. The purpose of this survey is to determine whether you are eligible to attend a screening appointment for the study.

This survey includes questions about your alcohol use. Please feel free to skip any question you would rather not answer. Your answers are strictly confidential.

Below you will be asked to indicate whether or not you would like to give consent and then advance to the survey. You will also be asked to either provide a code word or your contact information. The consent form and all survey information will be retained and hosted on Northeastern University's server. Northeastern and REDCap uses WPA2 wireless encryption to help ensure user data privacy and to secure all data. None of your actual survey responses will involve information that would personally identify you (for example, your name, address, date of birth).

After you complete the survey, you will be asked to email the study again at nuedgelab@northeastern.edu to indicate that you have completed the survey, at which point you will be asked to provide your code word. Or, if you provide your contact information a study staff member will reach out to you directly.

Any contact information you provide to the study will only be retained for the purpose of contacting you regarding this study. This contact information will not be provided to anyone other than study staff. A list containing this contact information will be kept in a locked cabinet or on a secure server at Northeastern University, to which only study staff will have access. After your status in the study is decided, this information will be destroyed. Data from your screener survey will not be retained. It will be deleted and study staff will no longer have access to your data after your status in the study is decided.
